Lipoglaze FAQs

What is it?

Lipoglaze is one of the safest and most effective methods of reducing stubborn fat.  It is a non surgical procedure that uses cooling technology that results in spot fat reduction.  The technology behind lipoglaze was developed by a team of dermatologists from Harvard University.  Their analysis revealed that fat cells are more responsive to the effects of cold, in contrast to the surrounding tissue, meaning fat cells crystallise at different temperatures than other cells.  The Lipoglaze system uses a powerful, non-invasive suction to target the areas of your body where you have unwanted or excess fat.  A single Lipoglaze treatment can destroy on average, 26% of fat.

How does it work?

A specially designed vacuum suction cup with cooling plates are positioned on the target body area, where the area is then chilled (fat cells are particularly sensitive to cold exposure) When cooled, fat cells no longer function in their usual way and breakdown, this process is called ‘Apoptosis’.  The surrounding areas, including blood vessels and nerves are less sensitive to the cool exposure so remain unaffected.  The results are the elimination of fat cells without damage to the surrounding tissue.

Will it hurt?

Your comfort is always of the upmost importance to us.  Many people report after the treatment that there was no pain at all and that it wasn’t as cold as they had anticipated.  That said, it really depends on your pain threshold, it can feel uncomfortable during the treatment.

What will I feel during treatment?

The vacuum will give a tugging sensation to the skin.  It can appear to be a little uncomfortable, but it is not uncommon for some of our clients to fall asleep.

What happens to the fat cells that have been treated?

The treated fat cells will perish and dissolve into the body via the lymphatic & immune system.  Affected blood cells are then flushed away by the nervous system using the bodies natural processes.  This results in the target areas reducing in size over the following weeks.

Are the results permanent?

Yes, it is permanent.  There are numerous clinical results, reviews and before & after photo’s which support the effectiveness of fat freezing.  The fat cells that will be crystallised through the Lipoglaze procedure are absorbed by the bodies natural processes and once those cells have been destroyed, they cannot re-grow.

How will I feel after treatment?

The beauty of this treatment is there are generally no side effects and no recovery period or downtime.  It is extremely rare to experience bruising or redness after the treatment so you can resume your normal day afterwards.

How long is a session?

Each session lasts circa 45 minutes per targeted area but this depends largely on the thickness of the area and how your body responds to the cooling technology.  Your treatment will be tailored to your particular requirements and agreed in your initial consultation.

How many sessions will I need?

One session is sufficient for most areas, although depending on the thickness of the fat and your personal goals, fat freezing may be repeated in the same area a second time.  If you decide you would like further reduction in the same area, the recommending waiting time is between 45 – 60 days to give enough time to accurately ascertain the results from the initial treatment.

How do I take care of myself following the treatment?

To achieve the maximum results, we advise the following;

  • Increase your fluid intake (recommend water) to assist with the ‘flushing out’ process
  • Lymphatic massage will accelerate the process of removing fat cells.
  • Regular body brushing at home will stimulate the lymphatic system to naturally eliminate fat cells
  • Regular exercise

A thorough aftercare leaflet will be provided, following your treatment and will ensure you gain the most from your treatment.  Our team will also liaise with you after treatment for up to three months to assess your results.

What are the risks?

With Lipoglaze you can expect to see some temporary sensations, such as; Mild redness, abdominal cramping, possible bruising or pin point bleeding, numbness, swelling, dizziness, nausea and pins & needles as the skin returns to normal.  In some extreme cases adverse reactions have been reported of painful blistering and cold injury.  During your post treatment consultation so we can identify any potential risks prior to the treatment taking place.

Please note that this treatment is not suitable for all and treatment maybe refused.

What results can I expect?

Clinical studies on Lipoglaze have shown fat reductions of up to 40%. Typically reductions of around 26% can be expected.  Results will vary and are dependant on the thickness of the fat deposits in each area and the lifestyle maintained after treatment.  Taking care to follow the aftercare advice will ensure best results.

When will I see results?

This will depend on the individual, the thickness of the fat and the area treated.  Changes can be seen within two weeks but the maximum results will not be seen until 12 weeks.  In clinical tests, 12 weeks post treatment, 9 out of 10 people experienced undeniable results.

How much does it cost?

After an initial consultation, we will establish your personal goals and create a plan to treat the desired areas.  Our pricing guide explains the pricing, however, for treatments of more than one area, discounts may apply.

Who is the ideal candidate for Lipoglaze?

Lipoglaze is an ideal treatment for spot fat reduction.  The ideal candidate is those who want to reduce localised fat deposits, typically on the abdomen, thighs, upper arms, flanks, lower back and hips.  These tend to be the areas least receptive to exercise and dieting.  Although most people are treatable, it is not an overall weight loss solution.  People who are within or near to their ideal body weight (BMI) will see the best results.

Do I need to diet?

It is more advisable to work on a nutrition and exercise plan in conjunction with your treatment to achieve the best results. After investing in changing your looks, we want to make sure you gain the most from your treatment. All this can be discussed at your initial consultation.

Aftercare advice includes tips on how to increase your water intake, avoid caffeine and other toxins, including alcohol to support your body’s natural processes.

When the fat cells die in one area, do the other fat cells grow to compensate?

Once the fat cells are destroyed, those cells are eliminated.  Fat is not able to grow again in the area that was treated.  There is no risk of fat from other areas moving to the treated area to compensate.

What are the main differences compared with other treatments?

The Lipoglaze treatment, result in a notable and natural reduction of fat tissue, avoiding the traumatic experience of invasive methods such as Liposuction and the damage to tissue.  Unlike other laser treatments, Lipoglaze physically destroys the fat cells and no further course of treatments is required as results are permanent.  The results are not as fast and dramatic as invasive procedures like Liposuction or tummy tuck but is an effective alternative for this wanting to avoid the higher cost, pain and risks associated with surgery.

What counters as a treatment area?

During consultation, we will assess the areas to be treated.  One treatment area is equal to the size of a Lipoglaze head.  In thighs, this would be two treatments, abdominals may only be one, depending on the spot fat reduction required.

What areas can be treated?

The good news is that most areas can be treated.  Upper & lower abdomen, upper arms, inner and outer thighs, love handles, flanks, muffin top, underneath buttocks, hips and male torso/man boobs. The applicator cannot be used for the chin area, ankles or wrists.  Lipoglaze can be used to treat man boobs but cannot be used on female great tissue.
